Episode 14: Road Trip Finale: Pop Up in New Orleans, Then Back to AVL!

Posted on May 21, 2013 by Amazing Capes

“CAPES!” yelled Stevie as she screeched to a halt on her totally rad bicycle. We had just set up a pop-up street shop with our local friend Catherine in Jackson Square to see how people dug our capes. One guy was going out with his friends for a bachelor party night- totally in need of a cape- and others like Stevie could instantly realize the vast potential that exists on a daily basis when a cape is included in wardrobe essentials. Booyah!

The energy of New Orleans is outstanding; its autonomy is omnipresent, and priorities feel refreshingly less conventional then anywhere else in the US. We had so much fun here. Exploring the Garden District, chowing on beignets, dancing late to Gypsy Jazz tunes...

With Nola as our last stop on our Cross Country journey, our intrepid Wanda swung onto the low roads to Mississippi. Next we crossed into a surprisingly lush Alabama. We met Georgia at dusk. South Carolina was a dream... and after 13 hours and a handful of 5-Hour Energy potions, Anna and Rox arrived back in Asheville, NC at the brand new hour of 2am.

It was cold and gray when we left, and now these mountains and valleys are bursting with greenery, extending their leaves in a big welcome back hug. Now it's time to hit the ground running :)

What a ride this trip has been. Thank you all for sharing the journey with us! We will be posting a short video soon.

Onwards and upwards!

Episode 10: Stolen Surprises in the Land of San Francisco

Posted on May 02, 2013 by Amazing Capes

Dear the city of Saint Francis, perhaps a bit of your holiness has fled these fog bleached row houses, late night eateries and crusty fire escapes? In the likeness of the novel On the Road where Dean drops Marylou and Sal on the streets of San Francisco, Anna and Rox were also left without wheels when sun warrior Wanda was abducted on Saturday night. Stolen! Straight up thievery! Oh woe it’s true. The girl was hot wired, lifted, purloined by stranger’s hands in the dark night… But what is a journey without a twist of events… a bit of adventure?

So?! Rox and Anna put on their Amazing Capes and emblazoned the Mission District in the dead of night on a hunt for Wanda’s captors; we raced motorcycles across the city, leaped tall buildings and stealthily followed the clues of her disappearance until hands were tied and justice was served. But alas… That is not how the story goes! For our suitcase chock full of powerful capes was lifted with Wanda! Poof! Our backs were bare. It was Superman stranded as Clark Kent. Batman without his Batmobile. Wonder Woman left grounded in a storm.

Meanwhile, the hired guns of the city took up the hunt, which brings forth a good moment to illuminate the positive qualities bestowed on this land in honor of Saint Francis. On the afternoon prior to the disappearance of our Amazing Capes, we trooped out to Land’s End to catch the first winds to hit the earth from their Pacific journey. The Heroes: Alexa (a magical Reiki healer), Seth (saving the world through solar energy), and Rox (superhero facilitator) got a blast of fresh energy at the mouth of the Golden Gates as we felt the air charter past our fingertips and billow our capes in the wind. What a beautiful place!

There’s a whole lot of magical goodness in this city—super kind people, amazing food, totally bomb bubble tea, terrific parks, a current of happening energy, amazing views, and a sense of resilience to keep it all moving forward.

As we let the universe do its work, the positive energy forces of Wanda brought her back to the light! 4 days later, in the vacuum of night, Anna’s phone rang with the recovery of the 78’ Toyota Corolla.  Just 10 blocks away, Wanda was marooned by an ocean of crack perfume. A hot mess! But as always, Onwards and Upwards my friends.

AC Truth 10: Having an Amazing Cape makes for good karma and stealing is just wrong.

Scene of the crime... The blue truck is parked where Wanda was!

Gorgeous Delores Park... totally bumpin with rad humans!

Hero Packaging

Posted on March 27, 2013 by Amazing Capes

Here at Amazing Capes there are several things we love. We treasure hours lost in old family photo albums, finding multiple purposes for gold spray paint, drawing inspiration from Leslie Knope, the goodness of homemade birthday cakes, dueling in mossy forests, and racing the golden hour on bicycles. And right at the top, we love the feeling of giving and receiving magical bundles.

Def: "magical bundle" n.: a carefully wrapped package that stirs up butterflies and causes one to feel a sudden rush of curiosity, excitement, nostalgia and profound possibility.

Our desire to have every cape feel like a magical gift to you and yours is why each one automatically arrives bundled up. Every Amazing Cape is folded in gold tissue, wrapped in recycled brown paper, hand stamped, and tied in a bow with jute string and love. (We also slip in a super hero sticker.) ... As one mother told us, "It was as if she just got her letter to Hogwarts." ...and hearing that made us pretty happy :)  So, if you're waiting on your letter, or know someone who might be- Amazing Capes ships free and is a choose your own adventure in the making. It's time... Release your inner superhero.
