The History of Amazing Capes From the Beginning of Time to Now
Once upon a time, a 23 yr old Roxanne was living in Washington DC. Fresh out of school with degrees in Photojournalism and Studio Art from UNC Chapel Hill she became a nanny on a military base along the Potomac River.
When I came up with the idea for Amazing Capes, I was 22 and living in DC. A nanny for 3 kids at the time, I left the capital on a 1-way ticket to Vietnam. When I was on the ground in Southeast Asia it soon became clear to me how much easier it was to have things- anything- made in that corner of the world. To be clear- I was trying to clear my head and channel new experiences at the time rather than focus on creating a manufacturing startup. However, with Amazing Capes in mind, I had one sample made in the city of Hoi An, Vietnam, that I would then occasionally wear through Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It was a simple lime-yellow cape with shoulder straps (now with a blot of hot pink paint on it as a result of a Full Moon Party in Thailand), created for an alter-ego of sorts named Lady Lightwave.
Then off to SE ASIA as LADY LIGHTWAVE!
Then KICKSTARTER HAPPENED
